Animal Welfare
Animal wellbeing and protection is at the center of our daily work at BSL BIOSERVICE by following the regulations to the German Animal Welfare Act in every detail which is one of the strictest legislation in the world.
We give extreme attention to housing conditions, socialization and environmental enrichment which are adapted for each species. According to German law in vivo tests are explicitly allowed for drug discovery and regulatory testing in different areas (e.g. chemicals, medical devices, food) to protect humans. For each test a cost/benefit ratio must be performed and proof must be given that intended goals cannot be reached using other methods or techniques.
The high standard of animal protection at BSL BIOSERVICE is documented by full accreditation from the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) since beginning of 2014. AAALAC International is a private, nonprofit organization that promotes the humane treatment of animals in science through voluntary accreditation and assessment programs.
